Summary: | During the meeting the Board discussed recent activity at Alabama State College, where students had been involved in civil rights demonstrations; the police commissioner of Montgomery had recommended that the entire school be shut down. Governor Patterson instead suggested that Dr. H. Councill Trenholm, president of the college, "put on immediate probation any and all of the thirty-one students who were arrested and fined in the Recorders Court of Montgomery, March 11, 1960, on charges of disorderly conduct in the demonstration on and/or off the campus of the College." He also called for the dismissal of "any and all members of the faculty...who are not loyal to the College in all matters of discipline and of rules and regulations pertaining to the proper functioning of the College at all times." The governor's recommendations were approved by the Board.
