Summary:During the war, Lanford was a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, working as a laboratory officer in several base hospitals and the Central Medical Department Laboratory in France. Most of the letters are written to Lanford's mother, Maria, and sister, Mattie Ormond; in them, he discusses training at Camp Greenleaf at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia; his service military hospitals in France; and visits to several French cities while on leave in early 1919.
