Letter from Brigadier General E. H. Hanes in Montgomery, Alabama, to Governor John Gill Shorter.
In the letter Hanes reports on the impressment of slaves in Montgomery and Autauga Counties. He had requested specific numbers of slaves from the two counties, but the planters in Montgomery County did not send enough. He includes a list of the slaves who have been sent.
