Letter from George Goldthwaite in Montgomery, Alabama, to Ellen Wallach in Boston, Massachusetts.

In the letter Goldthwaite gives news of family and acquaintances, and he describes social activities in the city. In particular he mentions the establishment of a lyceum and the practice of mesmerism (a type of hypnotism). Goldthwaite was Wallach's brother-in-law.
