description |
In the letter Mason and Dexter describe the climate, landscape, and business opportunities of the area: "No part of the United States offers greater encouragement to the adventurer, especially the agriculturist than Alabama. The country is yet new, its internal resources are daily developing themselves, and presenting to the eye of the adventurer a boundless field of speculation. When we take into consideration the immense quantity of cotton which in a few years will be made in this state, the facilities of transporting it to market, together with the readiness with which it will always command cash, we may reasonably infer that a large quantity of Northern manufactured articles will a meet a constant demand and profitable sale." They also mention a recent fire in Mobile. A transcript of the letter is included. |
