Description
Summary:This volume includes correspondence written by seven governors (Israel Pickens, John Murphy, Gabriel Moore, Samuel B. Moore, John Gayle, Hugh McVay, and Clement Comer Clay) and two secretaries of state (James J. Pleasants and James I. Thornton). In addition, there are also letters received by Governor Comer from military officials such as General Winfield Scott, General Edmund P. Gaines, and Secretary of War Lewis Cass. In the final letter in the volume, Clay informs militia captains that the Second Creek War has begun: "Therefore lose not a moment's time, mount your company if possible, and hasten to Montgomery with all despatch, where you will receive further orders."
