description The catalogs include the names of faculty members and students; give information about the school, such as its history, location, and objectives; and list the calendar, course of study, and expenses. The institution was established according to the wishes of Major David Deshler, who left his personal real estate to be used for "an undenominational college for the education of white females, upon the contribution of $10,000 of bona fide stock by the citizens of Tuscumbia, Alabama." When a tornado destroyed the main building two months after its completion in 1874, the citizens and local Masonic Fraternity raised funds to rebuild it.
