Description
Summary:One of them is wearing a "Who is John Galt?" cap (a reference to a character in Ayn Rand's ATLAS SHRUGGED) and is holding an American flag and sign that includes a Libertarian bumper sticker and reads, "Vote SB377 / The State Shouldn't Sanction Marriage." (Senate Bill 377 would have replaced marriage licenses in the state with contracts, thereby avoiding federal orders to issue licenses to same-sex couples.) Another is wearing an "I love my wife" T-shirt" and is holding a sign that reads, "My Big Gay Agenda / 1. Support & Defend the Constitution of the United States Against All Enemies Foreign & Domestic / 2. Be an Awesome Wife / 3. Raise 3 Wonderful Children; 4. Binge Watch OITNB & HOC / 5. Repeat." At the rally, which was hosted by Sanctity of Marriage Alabama, counter-demonstrators interacted peacefully with participants. From the event's Facebook page: "Join believers from across Alabama at the Alabama State Capitol on June 6th at 3:00 pm, to send a united message to elected officials, the Supreme Court and the world: Alabama is for Marriage. As the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to rule on marriage in June, you have a duty to speak up while the very nature of marriage is being threatened. Devotion to Christ, love for your country and concern for your children demand immediate action."
