description They are holding signs that read, "Support Gay Marriage / Matrimonial Misery for All Americans!"; "Being Raised Right!"; and "If you like it, you should [be able to] put a ring on it! / Marriage Equality." Despite federal court rulings legalizing same-sex marriage in early 2015, the Alabama Supreme Court ordered that probate judges stop issuing licenses to those couples on March 3 of that year. In response, Dothan citizens held two events on March 22: an "I Support Biblical Marriage Rally" at Ridgecrest Baptist Church and a counter-demonstration (organized by Equality Wiregrass) at the Dothan Civic Center. (The rally was initially set to take place at the civic center, too, and many of the counter-protestors reassembled outside the church later in the afternoon.)
