Description
Summary:Two of them are holding signs that read, "The Courthouse Is Not Your Church / Your religion Is Not Under Attack! / Is Not Relevant to This Legal / Secular / Civil Rights / Issue" and "A Baptist Cannot Tell a Jewish Clerk She Cannot Give a Marriage License to a Gay Atheist Couple! / Marriage for All." Another demonstrator has a sign that features a red and pink equal sign (a version of the Human Rights Campaign logo originally designed to promote marriage equality). The event, hosted by Sanctity of Marriage Alabama, was organized after the state began issuing same-sex marriage licenses on February 9, 2015. (From SOMA's Facebook page: "We stand with God's Word and the law of our land for marriage as defined by God - union between one man and one woman.") Members of the League of the South, a neo-Confederate group based in Killen, Alabama, were among the participants.
