Description
Summary:Mia Raven is standing on the far left, holding a sign that reads, "If Gay Marriage Threatens Your Straight Marriage, One of You Is Gay! / Love Is Love!" Other signs read, "The Courthouse Is Not Your Church / Your religion Is Not Under Attack! / Is Not Relevant to This Legal / Secular / Civil Rights / Issue"; and "A Baptist Cannot Tell a Jewish Clerk She Cannot Give a Marriage License to a Gay Atheist Couple! / Marriage for All." The event, hosted by Sanctity of Marriage Alabama, was organized after the state began issuing same-sex marriage licenses on February 9, 2015. (From SOMA's Facebook page: "We stand with God's Word and the law of our land for marriage as defined by God - union between one man and one woman.") Members of the League of the South, a neo-Confederate group based in Killen, Alabama, were among the participants.
