Summary:The Confederate battle flag hangs behind Dodson. He served as a 5th sergeant in Company G of the 51st Alabama Cavalry, C.S.A. This photograph was published in the Daily Mountain Eagle on December 23, 1931, with the following caption: "The accompanying picture of Uncle Zeke Dodson, of Japser, was taken on his 100th birthday. He is holding in his hands his honorable discharge from the Confederate Army, and in the background is the Confederate flag. During the celebration of his birthday Mrs. Ernest Guy sang "Dixie." Listening attentively he said, 'That is Dixie,' and clapping his hands he exclaimed, 'I fought for Dixie.' Mr. Dodson lives with his grandchildren, Miss Irene Stovall, and Clinton Stovall."
