Summary:Letitia Christian Tyler, wife of President Tyler, died two years into her husband's term; her daughters, Elizabeth and Letitia, and her daughter-in-law, Priscilla, acted as hostesses of the White House until the president married Julia Gardiner in June 1844. According to a note on the back of this image, Letitia Tyler Semple gave it to two of her nieces in 1895: "The photograph is taken from the portrait by 'Charles King' while 'Lady of the White House.'"
