Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of brigadier general.) Graduated form West Point; 1846; Mexican War veteran. Resigned his U.S. Army commission and was commissioned as a colonel in the 9th Alabama Infantry in July 1861. Promoted to brigadier general in October 1861 and major general in August 1863. Major campaigns and battles include Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Seven Days', Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Petersburg, and Appomattox. After the war, Wilcox lived in Washington, D.C., where he wrote on military tactics and worked for the government. He died in Washington in December 1890 and is buried there.
