Promoted to brigadier general in June 1861 and major general in October 1861. Transferred to the Trans-Mississippi in 1862, where he spent the remainder of the war. Major campaigns and battles include Big Bethel, Peninsular campaign, Seven Days', and Galveston. After the war, Magruder served briefly in the Mexican Army.
