Summary: | (Photograph has been retouched to show him as a brigadier general, but was wearing a colonel's uniform when photographed circa 1861-1862.) Commissioned as a colonel in the 11th Tennessee Infantry in May 1861. Promoted to brigadier general in November 1862. Major campaigns and battles include the Kentucky campaign and Stones Bridge.
