Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of brigadier general). Entered Confederate service as a captain in June 1861. After promoting through the grades, Gary was promoted to brigadier general in June 1863. Major campaigns and battles include First Manassas, the Peninsular campaign, Second Manassas, Boonsboro, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Suffolk, Bean's Station, Campbell's Station, and Knoxville.
