Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of colonel.) Appointed captain in the Mississippi State Army in April 1861; entered Confederate service in May 1861. After promoting through the grades, Harris was promoted to brigadier general in January 1864. Major campaigns and battles include Williamsburg, Seven Pines, Seven Days' (wounded), Second Manassas (wounded), Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Spotsylvania, Petersburg, and the defense of Richmond.
