Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of brigadier general.) Resigned from West Point in 1861, during his third year. Commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the Confederate Artillery July 1861. After promoting through the grades, Dearing was promoted to brigadier general in April 1864. Major campaigns and battles include First Manassas, the Peninsular campaign, Seven Pines, Second Manassas, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, New Berne, Drewry's Bluff, Petersburg, Dinwiddie Court House, Five Forks, and High Bridge.
