Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of brigadier general.) Graduated from West Point, 1856. Resigned his U.S. Army commission in March 1861 and was commissioned as a lieutenant colonel in the Confederate Army shortly afterward. After promoting through the grades, Major was promoted to brigadier general in July 1863. Major campaigns and battles include Texas, Wilson's Creek, Pea Ridge, and the Red River campaign. After the war, Major lived abroad for a few years and later became a farmer in Louisiana and Texas. He died in Austin, Texas, in May 1877 and is buried in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.
