Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of colonel.) Mexican War veteran. Joined the Alabama Volunteers at the outbreak of war and was later commissioned as a colonel in the 22nd Alabama Infantry in October 1861. Promoted to brigadier general in December 1862. Major campaigns and battles include First Manassas, Shiloh (wounded) Munfordville, Perryville, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, the Atlanta campaign, Jonesborough, Franklin, and the Carolinas.
