Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of colonel). Graduated from West Point, 1836; resigned his commission a few months later. Served as a volunteer during the Mexican War. Commissioned as a colonel of the 3rd Kentucky Infantry in July 1861 and promoted to brigadier general in October.
