(Uniform indicates rank of brigadier general.) Graduated from West Point, 1857. Resigned his U.S. Army commission in April 1861 and was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the Confederate Army. After promoting through the grades, Marmaduke was promoted to brigadier general in November 1862 and major general in March 1865 (the last to be promoted to that position). Major campaigns and battles include Booneville, Shiloh, Missouri raids, Helena, and Little Rock. Captured in October 1864 and held as a prisoner until the end of the war.
