Summary:(Photograph indicates rank of major general.) Mexican War veteran. Raised the 1st Arkansas Infantry at the outbreak of war and was commissioned as a colonel in May 1861. Promoted to brigadier general in October 1862 and major general in June 1864. Major campaigns and battles include Shiloh, Corinth, Cane Hill, Prairie Grove, Helena, and the Red River campaign.
