Promoted to brigadier general in April 1862. Major campaigns and battles include Corinth and Port Hudson (captured). Through a special agreement between the United States and Confederate governments, Beall remained in the North to serve as a Confederate purchasing agent responsible to purchasing supplies for Confederate prisoners of war through the sale of Confederate cotton. Beall remained in the position until August 1865, after all Confederate prisoners fo war had returned home. After the war, Beall worked in St. Louis, Missouri, as a general commission agent.
