Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of brigadier general.) Resigned from West Point at the outbreak of war and was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the Confederate Artillery in March 1861. After promoting through the grades, Rosser was promoted to brigadier general in October 1863 and major general in November 1864. Major campaigns and battles include First Manassas, the Peninsular campaign, Second Manassas, South Mountain, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the 1864 Valley campaign. After the war, Rosser worked as an engineer and planter and served as a brigadier general of the volunteers during the Spanish-American War. He died in Charlottesville, Virginia, in March 1910.
