Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of colonel.) Graduated form Virginia Military Institute, 1851. Commissioned as a captain in the 13th Tennessee Infantry at the outbreak of war. After promoting through the grades, Vaughan was promoted to brigadier general in November 1863. Major campaigns and battles include Belmont, Shiloh, Corinth, Stones River, Chickamauga, and the Atlanta campaign (wounded). After the war, Vaughan returned to farming and merchant business in Mississippi and Tennessee. He died in Indianapolis, Indiana, in October 1899 and is buried in Mississippi.
