Major campaigns and battles include Shiloh, Corinth, Baton Rouge, Stones River, Vicksburg, Chickamauga, and the 1864 Shenandoah campaign. After a brief exile following the war, Breckinridge returned to Kentucky to practice law. He died there in May 1872 and is buried in Lexington, Kentucky. Sources: Boatner, Mark M.
