Summary:(Uniform indicates rank of brigadier general.) Graduated from West Point, 1842; Mexican War veteran. Resigned his U.S. Army commission in June 1861 and was commissioned as a brigadier general in the Confederate Army shortly afterward. Promoted to major general in October 1861 and lieutenant general in October 1862. Major campaigns and battles include First Manassas, Williamsburg, Seven Days', Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Suffolk, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Knoxville, and the Wilderness (wounded). After the war, Longstreet participated in several business ventures and held several political appointments. Longstreet died in January 1904 and is buried in Gainesville, Georgia.
