Philip Henry Gosse.
Gosse, an English naturalist, briefly lived in Dallas County, Alabama, in the late 1830s. During that time, he sketched and painted local species of plants and insects, and he later published LETTERS FROM ALABAMA, in which he described his experiences in the state.
