description Bowling served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1920 to 1928. The back of the postcard reads, "To the Democrats of the Fifth Congressional District: / I believe I understand the hearts of the people of this District, and know how they feel on public questions and what they want done in Washington. I believe my public service has demonstrated that I am in full accord with the ideas of the people of my native state, and that I can creditably represent them in Congress. / I stand for economy in public expenditures; for fair markets and proper protection for our great cotton crop; for the extension of the Farm Loan Law to reach a greater number of farmers with its benefits; for a Federal Department of Education, the State retaining complete control of her schools; for a continuation of the policy of national aid for Good Roads; for the enforcement of Law, and for the general upbuilding of our common country. / For the achievement of these ends, I pledge all my energy and ability, and upon this I ask your support, and will appreciate it deeply. / W. B. Bowling / (Paid Political advertisement by W. B. Bowling, Lafayette, Ala.)."
