Summary:The following information is written on the back of the photograph: "This picture represents the bridge at Selma, Ala., over the Alabama River, during the flood of 1886. The bridge reaches 650 ft. over the river, with 200 feet approach on south side. It is built in three spans, 18 feet wide, adn cost $55000. The flood extended 10 miles south, across the prairie. The river rose 75 feet above low water mark."
