Description
Summary:"When the Colonial Government house was moved to the locality in 1793, the street it faced was called a Government Street. For a time, both the present Conti Street and Government Street were known by that name. It has long been Mobile's most beautiful residence street; lined as it is with live oaks, palms and semi-tropical plants; handsome homes surrounded by lawns and gardens that accord with the remainder of the scene. It is still Government Street in the same old sense, for the Court House, seat of County Government is located thereon."
