Jefferson Davis lying in state in the Supreme Court chamber of the Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama.
Davis died in 1889 in New Orleans, Louisiana, but was reinterred in Richmond, Virginia, in 1893. On the way, a procession was held in Montgomery, and his casket was placed in the Capitol for several hours.
