Cooling tower and electric substation at the Alamet Division of Calumet and Hecla in Selma, Alabama.
The plant processed dolomite from Shelby County to produce magnesium. The company was formed in the late 1950s as the Alabama Metallurgical Corporation, and in the mid-1960s it was completely absorbed by Calumet and Hecla, Inc. (which had held a 70 percent share of the original business).
