Summary: | "This outstanding old building on Royal Street between Church and Government bears the impressive title of City Hall and Municipal Building - but to old Mobilians the place is more familiarly known as 'The Old Southern Market.' It was built in 1858 and for years on end it offered to a city of gourmets the most choice fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, and game. Its architecture distinctly reflects the influence of Spain, France, and early English-Americans, these three being predominate in Mobile's history." The postmark date on the back of this postcard is September 10, 1950.
