Summary: | "This building is the home of the Alabama State Department of Archives and History. It contains the State's official records, a fine historical reference library, numerous historical museums and oil portraits in addition to the several working divisions of the Department. The structure was erected through joint funds of the State and the Federal Government as a WPA Project, 1938-1940. The wings proposed in the original plans will be added at the end of World War II.
