Summary: | Fite was Speaker of the House from 1967 to 1971. The men are listening to Governor Lurleen Wallace address a joint session of the legislature, which was held to discuss the federal court order requiring statewide school desegregation. The governor had asked the legislators to give her the power to resist the order, so they met to consider her request. Educators and other witnesses offered testimony for and against the integration order.
