Harper Lee's Presidential Medal of Freedom
Harper Lee's novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, has been a best seller since its 1960 release. The novel was awarded the 1961 Pulitzer Prize. In 2007 President George W. Bush presented Harper Lee with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest award given to a civilian by a president.
