Summary:The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was established on May 14, 1942. In September 1943, it was retitled the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and made a component of the U.S. Army. Though officially noncombatant, the WAC served in all overseas theatres during World War II. This uniform was worn by Frances E. Johnson, who served in the WAAC from June to August 1943, and the WAC from September 1943 to December 1945. Prior to the war, Johnson lived in Pike Road in Montgomery County, Alabama, where she taught grammar school.
