The map includes insets of several major cities; drawings of significant sites in the state; railroad elevations; and a table listing the population in each Alabama county, broken down into the following categories: 1) "White males under 21 years"; 2) "White males over 21 years"; 3) "White females under 21 years"; 4) "White females over 21 years"; 5) "Total number of whites"; 6) "Insane within the county"; 7) "Insane sent abroad"; 8) "Number of slaves"; 9) "Free persons of color"; and 10) "Total no. of inhabitants."
