Allgood, played violin and accordion and sang and played Sacred Harp music. Allgood started fiddling when he was 7 or 8 years old, and he played for many dances in earlier days. He and other fiddlers in the area were influenced by Desso Baker, who won many of the local contests. The recordings included here were made by Joyce Cauthen as part of fieldwork for "Possum up a Gum Stump: Home, Field and Commercial Recordings of Alabama Fiddlers," an LP album produced by Brierfield Ironworks Park Foundation with additional funding from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
