Death mask grave marker at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Carlton, Alabama.
The marker was created by Isaac Nettles, who would make an impression of the person while living for later use on funerary stones. This photo was taken by Joey Brackner in early 1985 while working for the Alabama Decorative Arts Survey at the Birmingham Museum of Art.
