White protestors gathering along Dexter Avenue in front of the state judicial building to prevent a civil rights protest march from Dexter Avenue Baptist Church to the Capitol in Montgomery, Alabama.
The crowd of 4,000 whites gathered to prevent a march led by Ralph Abernathy from Dexter Avenue Church to the state capitol. The attempted march was in support of lunch counter sit-ins by Alabama State College students.
