Summary:Left to right: Judge Virgil Pittman, Judge Eris Paul, Thomas A. Johnston, Judge Frank M. Johnson, and Daniel H. Thomas (seated). In June 1966 Pittman was appointed to a new joint seat as judge of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama. Thomas was chief judge of the Southern District, and Johnson was chief judge of the Middle District. Paul, a state district judge from Elba, was a mentor to Pittman. Thomas Johnston was a Mobile lawyer and past president of the Mobile Bar Association.
