description Coach Thad (Pie) Vann / University of Southern Mississippi / Pie Vann Day at University of Southern Mississippi / Hattiesburg, Mississippi / Third "winningest coach" in modern football / University of Southern Mississippi's Thad (Pie) Vann ranks behind only Bud Wilkinson of Oklahoma and Johnny Vaught of Ole Miss. / (There are different variations of this same possible caption, on shot shows Vann from back, playboard at hip, others from side... all with team scrimmaging in background. Also several pictures on 35mm roll) / Four varsity coaches in dressing room: / Vann leans heavily on top assistants. / Pete Taylor, and coach: Tom Pratt, line; Vann, and Maxie Lambright, backfield. All played ball under Vann at Southern. / Which is for the ignition? / USM head coach Pie Vann waves keys to shiny new car donated by alumni and "M" Club members. / Final photo on 120 roll... Vann and wife seated looking at scrapbook... has Meridian tie in. / Old scrapbook of Meridian coaching days / Pie and Ann Vann glance through yellowed scrapbook compiled of 1929-1936 clips when Vann coached Meridian Wildcats, then Big Eight champions. / For the most part, the 35mm pictures rather duplicate the above, except for facial expression, etc. You might want to develop and contact-print both rolls. / President McCain not on campus, unable to get shot of he and Vann together; however, the uniform guardsmen-reservist pictures enclosed will be good to use instead. Vann is a USAR colonel... recently, McCain was promoted to one start general, Mississippi National Guard. / Ho ho! This might put him in line to be the next commander of the Alabama - Mississippi 31st (Dixie) Division. He's a good Ross Barnett segregationist and the only other full Mississippi Guardsman general in federal judge Claude Clayton. Wonder if someone is setting up McCain for the slot. / Van and family / Vann made honorary mayor of Hattiesburg in 1953 following upset of Alabama / Vann and Dr. McCain / [Work order and notes included]
