Replica of the "Best Friend of Charleston," the first locomotive used in the United States, on the railroad tracks at 20th Street and Railroad Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama.
The train had traveled throughout the southeastern United States before arriving in Birmingham on July 28. The original train was built in 1830 for the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company, and the replica was manufactured at Southern Railway shops in Birmingham and Charleston.
