| Summary: | A similar photograph was published on the front page of the Birmingham News (afternoon edition) on March 14, 1941, with the following caption: "Fire Guts Barker School - Barker School, one of the city's oldest school buildings, was gutted by fire early Friday, its interior destroyed and only the walls left standing. Discovered about 5:10 a.m. by an Age-Herald carrier, the fire spread through the interior, soon licked at the roof which tumbled into ruins. The building located at 1230 North Twenty-Third Street, was erected in 1903, and many of Birmingham's most prominent citizens received their first schooling within its rooms.
