This image was published in the Birmingham News on April 10, 1939, with the following caption: "Invite the Nation - Invitations inviting the nation to attend Birmingham's great free Air Carnival June 3 and 4 went out this week-end under the signature of Hayden Brooks, president Birmingham Aero Club; Jimmy Jones, president Birmingham City Commission; and Steadham Acker, general chairman of the event (shown above from left to right). The nation's greatest fliers and most beautiful girls will take part in the thrilling events of the celebration." Jones served as president of the Birmingham City Commission from 1925 until his death in February 1940. (The image is damaged due to deterioration of the original negative.)
