Aerial view of the 1st Avenue viaduct in Birmingham, Alabama.
The structure, also known as the Weatherly Viaduct, was completed in 1915 and spanned the railroad tracks from Terminal Station (26th Street North) to Sloss Furnaces (around 31st Street North). Plans to expand the roadway were discussed in 1939, though that work was not begun for another ten years.
